What does the acronym A.M.E. mean?

The word African means that the church was organized by people of African descent and heritage. It does not mean that the church was founded in Africa, or that it was for persons of African descent only. The church’s roots are of the family of Methodist churches. Methodism provides an orderly system of rules and regulations and places emphasis on a plain and simple gospel. Episcopal refers to the form of government under which the church operates. The chief executive and administrative officers of the African Methodist Episcopal denomination are the Bishops of the church.

What is Mother Bethel

Founded in 1787, the church rests upon the oldest parcel of land in the United States continuously owned by African-Americans. The church memorializes Rev. Richard Allen, its founding pastor and first bishop. A basement crypt serves as a museum, housing Allen’s tomb and other intriguing artifacts, including original pews, the original pulpit constructed and used by Rev. Allen, old ballot boxes used to elect church officers, and muskets from when Allen raised black troops during the War of 1812.

APOSTLE’S CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead; and buried. The third day he arose from the dead’ he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

The structure of the A.M.E. Church

The African Methodist Episcopal Church is a connectional organization. Each local church is a part of the larger connection.The Bishops are the Chief Officers of the Connectional Organization. They are elected for life by a majority vote of the General Conference which meets every four years. Will there be church service during Covid-19 Quarantine

As of now we will not be fellowshipping at the church. However there has been an effort to establish conference calls between committees. Make sure that your address, email and phone number has been given to the secretary for updates. Check the website for new sermons and lessons. Sunday service has been canceled until further notice, nevertheless that doesn’t mean that checking on your brothers and sisters in Christ and the community has to stop Please telephone and text each other daily just to stay in contact with one another. And above all else Pray family as we get through this tumultuous time.

Can I use an outdated discipline

It is recommended that you get the most current Discipline as possible,in order to adhere to whatever changes may have been made during convention. If you are unable to secure a current Discipline remember that you may be using information that is no longer valid and therefore risk being in direct violation of protocols and procedures.
